Bottleize is built on work other people published. This page says whose, and under what terms.
Producer, wine, region and classification data comes from LWIN, the wine identification standard published by Liv-ex.
LWIN is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence.
We changed the data.The licence asks us to say so, and we did. Names are normalised for matching, accented and unaccented spellings of the same producer are merged, and LWIN's geography columns are mapped onto our own regions and appellations. Any mistake in how a wine appears here is ours, not Liv-ex's.
When you choose a password we check whether it appears in a known breach, using the Pwned Passwords range API.
Your password is never sent anywhere. Only the first five characters of its hash leave this server, padded with decoys, and the comparison happens here. That is how the service is designed to work.
When you photograph a label, the photo is sent to Anthropic's API to be read and the text it returns fills in the form. The photo is used for that request and is not stored.
The world and region maps are drawn by Bottleize from public-domain coordinate outlines. They are illustrations of where your bottles come from, not survey data, and borders are simplified.
Bottleize is built with Next.js, React and Tailwind CSS, and runs on Vercel with a Neon Postgres database. Those and the rest of the open-source libraries in use are under their own licences, which travel with the packages themselves.
